Healthcare Systems Collaboration

As we keep clamouring for more concerted efforts at improving healthcare in our country, we look at many of the inclusive parameters which would include budgeting, financing, policy, planning, infrastructure, professionalism etc and find them lacking in so many uncanny ways

With  various governmental and non governmental agencies already poised at advancing on these, we should also focus on collaboration and systems integration…..put together “systems collaboration” for the healthcare
industry.

We must look inwards at what we represent as individuals, what we stand for as a collective lot, and what we are able to put together even at the  rudimentary grassroot levels to find ways to improve healthcare delivery and allow the effectiveness to penetrate to the throngs of people in the low socioeconomic strata who deserve all the attention
they can get.

Yes there are governmental initiatives and there are private coy initiatives and of course PPPs but then all these seemingly turn out to be big puzzles as we continue to experience a dearth in the provisioning of healthcare at the primary level and in fact all tiers of the healthcare systems.

The other day, a medical doctor cried out at the state of the facilities at a tertiary healthcare center where he took his ailing aged mother for care after she had a CVA. He eventually had to transfer her to a private owned healthcare center where the cost of services were expectedly beyond reality…but he had to cough out moneys out of pocket and after all the efforts, she still passed on after just a week for something as simple as an unnoticed aspiration pneumonitis. The internist had handed over to a GP on weekend call-duty who didn’t make the right observation in time.

Where do we start from?

Whose responsibility is the healthcare burden?

What exactly is our major challenge?

Is it still possible to restructure our healthcare systems again?

What is not working?

Who is not doing the right thing?

Where are the gaps?

What is “healthcare systems collaboration”?…and who is responsible for
this?.

Food for thought.
